Aidonia
Sheldon Aitana Ricardo Lawrence, born on 6 April 1981 in Kingston, Jamaica is a dancehall and reggae artist.
Aidonia is the second child of four children. His mother was a teacher and his father an ex-soldier. His stage name came about from the first two letters in his middle name ‘Aitana’, and ‘Donia’, a name which he was given while playing football. His inspiration to engage his music career came after watching a tape of Sting 1993 with the clash between Beenie Man, and his very own icon Bounty Killer.
When he got expelled from school, Aidonia went to the United States with his father and continued doing minor work in his music career with some dancehall New Yorkers. However, he was encouraged to concentrate on Jamaica so he could grow his career better. On Goofy’s Young Blood label he recorded his first single ‘Many a Dem’ in October 2003. He began performing weekly at Battle Thursdays after he had started working with Rod Pinnock of Orizen Entertainment. The song “Lolly” which was done on Skatta’s Irish Dance riddim in 2004 became a hit for Aidonia.
