Rock Stone Riddim – Opera House Records

Opera House Records had a sharp little moment with Rock Stone Riddim in late 2016, and you can hear Buccaneer’s label imprint in the way the whole thing leans into lean, straight-ahead dancehall rather than overcooking the arrangement. Sizzla’s “So It Go” gives the riddim its fiercest pull, while Aidonia slides in with “Pleasure” in that clipped, post-2000 style he does so well, leaving Buccaneer’s own “Dem Lie” to close the set with a veteran’s cool. There are only three cuts here, but that’s part of the charm: no dead weight, just a tight run of voices over a bruising groove, released on December 16, 2016.
