The Champ Riddim - Cr203 / Zj Chrome

The Champ Riddim came through CR203 Records under ZJ Chrome, one of the better-known modern dancehall production names out of Jamaica. ZJ Chrome has built a catalog around high-energy juggling releases, and this one landed in 2016 with a clear club-and-sound-system edge. The beat is brisk and punchy, with a militant bounce, clipped drums, and enough space for riders to jab their vocals in short, memorable phrases.

The lineup is strong and very much in the lane that made the riddim click. Aidonia’s “Piranha” brings the fierce, aggressive side of the project, while Ding Dong’s “Gym” gives it the dancehall-dancer lift he has always been good at pushing. Konshens’ “Pree Money” keeps the energy streetwise and money-driven, and Masicka’s “CareZero” fits the younger, sharper cadences that were starting to define his rise. Sean Paul and Hood Celebrity also appear on the release, which helps widen the reach beyond pure local juggling territory.

What makes The Champ Riddim work is the balance between rawness and replay value. The instrumental is built for fast rotation, and the clean and raw versions of some cuts underline how squarely this sits in mainstream dancehall practice. It is the kind of riddim that sounds made for selectors: bright enough to catch attention, hard enough to carry a pull-up, and varied enough in voice selection to keep it moving without losing its shape.
