Outbreak Riddim – Di Genious Records

Outbreak Riddim came out of Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor’s Di Genius Records camp in 2009 and circulated as a 2010 dancehall release. McGregor was already one of the sharpest young producers in Jamaican music, with a clean, digital approach that could handle both hard-edged deejays and more melodic voices without losing pressure. This one sits right in that lane: fast-moving, rugged, and built for juggling.

The rhythm has a taut, street-ready bounce with a cold synth line and enough space for the voices to cut through. It feels like late-2000s dancehall in full motion, when militant talk, party pull-up energy, and radio-friendly hooks could live on the same riddim. The strongest cuts come from the heavy hitters: Aidonia and Suhvertu on “Wi Sick, ” Assassin on “Nah Sell Out, ” Busy Signal on “Any How Dem Diss” and “Ms. Rubba Waist, ” Elephant Man on “Shell Down, ” and Mavado on “String Dem. ” Tony Matterhorn’s “Dash Out Di Pussy” and T. O. K. ’s “Forever” widen the range, while Chino, Laden, Bramma, Shema, and Singing Sweet help fill out the set with different shades of stance and melody.

What makes Outbreak work is the balance between aggression and replay value. The deejay cuts bring the bark and bravado, but the rhythm itself stays nimble enough to let the hooks breathe.
