Dynamite Riddim (2012) – Head Concussion Records

Released in 2012 on Head Concussion Records, Dynamite Riddim comes from Tarik Johnston, better known as Rvssian, the producer behind some of the sharpest early-2010s dancehall out of Kingston. By then, Head Concussion had already become a reliable home for tough, digital-rooted juggling, and this one fits neatly into that run.

The riddim has a brittle, speaker-rattling snap with a dark low-end pulse and a quick, bouncing forward motion that gives the vocals plenty of room to cut through. It feels made for sound system play: lean drums, sudden bursts of energy, and just enough space in the arrangement to let each artist stamp a different personality on the same backbone.

Vybz Kartel’s “Dynamite” is the anchor cut, and it has the kind of clipped, commanding delivery that made him the dominant voice on so many 2012 dancehall rhythms. Aidonia’s “Love How You Whine” pushes the same instrumental in a flirtier direction, while Chan Dizzy’s “Good Fuck” brings a rougher, more explicit edge. Charly Black’s “Backshot” and Elephant Man’s “Muss Come Back” keep the party temperature high, with the latter’s animated chant style fitting the riddim’s jumpy pulse especially well. Jahmiel’s “Everywhere Me Go” and Fyah Bass’s “Work Hard” add newer voices to the juggling, giving the release a mix of established names and rising talent.

As a project, Dynamite Riddim is a clean example of Head Concussion’s method at the time: streamlined production, heavy replay value, and a lineup that can turn one beat into several different moods.
