Popcaan

Andrae Hugh Sutherland, born 19 July 1988 in Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica is a Jamaican dancehall artist, reggae fusion, DJ, singer, and songwriter. Sutherland grew up in Portmore, Saint Catherine Parish in Jamaica. He began his dancehall career in 2007 when he approached Vybz Kartel and he was taken under his wing as his mentor and producer. At that point he became a rooted member of Vybz Kartel’s posse. Vybz Kartel facilitated his exposure via platforms such as Reggae Sumfest and Sting. He rose to stardom in early 2010 because of his singles like “Only Man She Want.” He went on to receive an award for Best New Artist in 2011 via Excellence in Music and Entertainment Award (EME). He also won Collaboration of the Year and Song of the Year award when he did a collaboration with Kartel on the song titled ” Clarks.”At a point, Busta Rhymes officially did a remix of “Only Man She Want.” The New York Times gave Popcaan to feature and speak about the song and the impact it was making. Subsequently, Popcaan founded Unruly Entertainment in 2013. Popcaan has been touring the world and visited continents such as Europe, South America region, and Canada including the Caribbean. Drake, Wale, and Davido are among some of the many international artists that Popcaan has collaborated with to date. In January 2020, regarding his 2020 album, Popcaan confirmed that Drake will collaborate with him.
