    Greensleeves Riddims

One of reggae and dancehall’s most iconic labels.

Greensleeves Records is one of the most important names in reggae and dancehall. It began as a small record shop in London in the 1970s, opened by Chris Cracknell and Chris Sedgwick to serve the city’s West Indian community, and grew into a major label that carried Jamaican music to the world.

Greensleeves worked closely with legendary producers like Henry “Junjo” Lawes, King Jammy and Gussie Clarke, and helped make the “riddim” idea — many artists voicing the same instrumental — famous far beyond Jamaica. In the early 2000s its Greensleeves Rhythm Album series ran for 90 volumes and became a key part of dancehall history. The label joined VP Records in 2008 but kept its own name and legacy.
