C4 Riddim (2002) – King Of Kings

C4 Riddim landed in 2002 from the King Of Kings camp, the Burrell brothers’ Kingston powerhouse run by Cordel “Scatta” Burrell and Everton “Eva” Burrell. By then, King Of Kings had already become one of the sharpest dancehall labels of the era, known for riddims that could carry big-name voices without losing their street edge.

This one has that early-2000s sting: dark, clipped drums, a hard bounce in the low end, and enough open space for the deejays to cut through cleanly. It feels built for the dance first, with the energy kept tense rather than glossy. The vibe moves between war talk, bravado and straight-up rider lyrics, which is exactly why the versioning works so well here.

Capleton’s “They Don’t Know” and Anthony B’s “Rastaman” bring the roots-conscious fire, while Elephant Man’s “Nuh Come Fast” pushes the tempo and the crowd-pleasing heat. Bling Dawg’s “Boom Dem Up” and Vybz Kartel’s “Friend” show the more aggressive side of the rhythm, and Frisco Kid, Hollow Point and Chuck Fender add their own streetwise and reflective angles. There’s also a strong singjay presence from Chrisinti and Ikay on “Thinking Of You, ” which gives the riddim a softer, more melodic shade without dulling its bite.

The lineup also includes Sizzla, Lady Saw, Turbulence, Bascom X, Jagwa, Madd Anju and Gold Voice, and a few of the lesser-remembered cuts help fill out the picture. The result is a full juggling that captures King Of Kings at one of its most productive moments: heavy, versatile and built for repeat spins.
