Good To Go Riddim - Don Corleon Records

Good To Go landed in 2003 from Donovan “Don Corleon” Bennett’s Don Corleon Records imprint, right when his name was becoming one of the most important in early-2000s dancehall. The set sits in that sharp, radio-ready run that helped define his catalogue, and it also circulated as Greensleeves Rhythm Album #44, which pushed it beyond Jamaica and into the wider dancehall market.

The riddim has that brisk, street-facing feel Don Corleon was known for: crisp drums, a rolling bounce in the low end, and enough open space for the voices to cut through cleanly. It never sounds overcrowded, even with a heavyweight cast on top. Elephant Man comes in twice, with Stop Hitch and Bun Down Dat, and both cuts play to his fast, animated style. Assassin’s Pull Up and Cham’s Chat Tuff keep the tension high, while Bounty Killer’s Sadda Dem brings the rough authority the rhythm needs. Bling Dawg and Lukie D team up on Girl For Me for a softer, more melodic angle, and Frisco Kid with Ce’Cile on Ghetto Youths adds a sharper dancehall duet feel. Nicky B’s Are You Ready and Regan’s Bran help round out the set, while Ward 21, General Degree, Lady Saw, Sizzla, T. O. K. , Wayne Wonder, and Predator give the riddim a broad voice and a real juggling energy.

Good To Go works because it balances aggression and melody without losing its pace. It is one of those Don Corleon builds that sounds like a snapshot of the era, when a riddim could move from hard-edged dancehall to crossover appeal without breaking stride.
