Tanto Metro

The bigger turn in his career came when he linked with singer Wayne Passley, better known as Devonte. Together, the pair formed one of dancehall’s most recognizable vocal duos of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Their breakthrough single, “Everyone Falls in Love,” became a defining crossover record and led to the album of the same name. That success opened the door to wider international exposure, and the duo followed with The Beat Goes On, Musically Inclined, and later compilations and reunion projects.

What made Tanto Metro and Devonte stand out was the contrast at the core of their sound: Devonte’s smooth tenor against Tanto Metro’s rough-edged deejay style. That formula gave their records a radio-friendly lift without losing the energy of dancehall. Songs like “Give It to Her,” “Go So,” “Front of the Line,” and “Teaser” kept them moving through clubs, sound systems, and mainstream playlists, while their songs remained rooted in Jamaican dancehall phrasing and rhythms.

Their catalog has continued to resonate well beyond the era that first made them stars. “Everyone Falls in Love” has been sampled and reworked by later artists, a reminder of how deeply the song settled into popular memory. Even after periods of relative quiet, Tanto Metro and Devonte have returned with new music and live dates, showing the staying power of a partnership built on chemistry, timing, and a feel for what makes a dancehall song connect beyond its first run.
