MONEY COLOGNE RIDDIM produced by RAGGEDY JOE 1997
Money Cologne Overview
Money Cologne Riddim started out as an experiment in sound. In the late 1990s, dancehall producers were always searching for something fresh. RAGGEDY JOE, known for his sharp ear and work with his own label, wanted to build a riddim that mixed tough dancehall energy with hooks that stuck in your head. He spent long nights at the mixing board, carefully shaping the sound. In the studio, he was known as a mixing board king, always pushing for a clean but powerful groove. When the riddim was ready, it was time to call in some of the top voices in dancehall. Beenie Man, already famous for hits like “Who Am I (Sim Simma),” brought his style to “Farmer Man.” His delivery was both playful and commanding, showing why he was one of the genre’s biggest stars. Anthony Red Rose Bounty Killer teamed up for “Woman Its You,” blending Red Rose’s smooth tone with Bounty Killer’s unmistakable, gruff voice. Bounty Killer, known for his raw lyrics and awards like the 2002 MOBO for Best Reggae Act, gave the track extra weight. Frisco Kid, who was rising up in the scene, added “Been There Done That,” bringing his signature flow to the riddim. When Money Cologne Riddim dropped in 1997, it quickly became a dancehall classic. DJs loved how it worked on the sound systems, and fans couldn’t get enough of the catchy hooks and hardcore vibes. Today, it’s still remembered as a touchstone of dancehall from that golden year.
