Heatwave landed in 2001 as one of the sharper early Greensleeves rhythm albums from Annex and Harvel “Gadaffi” Hart, a producer already tied to a string of sound-system-ready dancehall projects. The riddim sits in the heavier, muscle-flexing pocket of that era: thick bass, hard-snap drums and a brisk, choppy pull that gives the DJs room to bark, toast and crowd the drop.

The cut that still anchors the set is Capleton’s “Forward Inna Dem Clothes, ” which rides the rhythm with firebrand urgency and the militant lift that made him such a reliable presence on one-riddim releases. Beenie Man’s “Forget You” brings the loose, charismatic hitmaking he was known for at the turn of the decade, while Elephant Man’s “Get To The Point” adds his fast, animated ride over the groove. Ce’cile’s “Tell Lie” gives the riddim a slyer female voice, and Buju’s era wasn’t the only place where dancehall could turn sharp and playful; Buccaneer’s “Gal You Make It” and Kiprich’s “Love That Thing” keep the party side alive.

Elsewhere, Danny English’s “We No Like Spy, ” Determine’s “Don’t Be, ” Harry Toddler’s “We No Like” and Hawkeye’s “Long Time” push the same streetwise, anti-chat energy that defined the period. The project also captures a real Kingston juggling moment, with several artists returning to the same pulse from different angles. Heatwave is less about novelty than pressure: a sturdy 2001 dancehall framework voiced by artists who knew how to work a riddim hard.
