MUD UP RIDDIM produced by IN THE STREETZ (GREENSLEEVES RHYTHM ALBUM #11)

Mud Up arrived in 2001 as one of the early Greensleeves Rhythm Album sets, issued through In The Streetz and driven by a tough, stripped-back dancehall pattern that leaves plenty of room for the voicing. Byron Murray and Clifford “Mr. Vegas” Smith are credited as the producers, and the release sits in the middle of that era when riddim albums were doing heavy lifting across the dancehall market.

The line-up is loaded with voices that mattered at the turn of the decade. Capleton sets the tone with “Hands Off, ” bringing his militant energy to a riddim that can take aggression without crowding it. Mr. Vegas is the clear anchor here, turning up several times with cuts like “She’s a Ho, ” “Stop Man Food, ” “Call Di Hearse, ” and “Work It Out, ” which fits his knack for sly, streetwise talk and catchy phrasing. Sean Paul’s “Check It Deeply” adds a more polished, radio-ready edge, while Elephant Man and Danny English push the set into full party mode on “It’s OK” and Elephant Man’s solo turns keep the energy jumping. Hawkeye, Merciless, Lexxus, Alozade, Junior Demus, Harry Toddler, Captain Barkey and Bling Dawg all help flesh out the juggling.

What makes Mud Up work is the balance between raw dancehall chatter and crowd-friendly hooks. The rhythm has that early-2000s bounce: lean, percussive, and built for selectors to run it back. “War Medley, ” “Friend Enemy, ” and “Bun It” give the project its harder edge, while “Street Dreams” and “Go Rachel” widen the mood. It plays like a proper dancehall session, not just a compilation.
