ENERGY RIDDIM produced by FIRST NAME MUSIC 2001
Energy Overview
In the early 2000s, dancehall parties in Jamaica and abroad were full of energy, and the Energy Riddim was one of the main sounds of 2001. The riddim came from FIRST NAME MUSIC, a label known for producing some of the era’s most memorable dancehall tracks. FIRST NAME MUSIC helped shape the sound of the time, working with top artists and making a strong impact on the dancehall scene. Assassin, now also known as Agent Sasco, was one of the key voices on the Energy Riddim. His songs “Wha A Gwaan” and “Yuh Nu Coot” showed his lyrical skills and helped build his reputation. Assassin later became known for his work on Kanye West’s album “Yeezus.” Beenie Man, featured with “Model Me Gal,” was already a global dancehall superstar. He is famous for hits like “Who Am I (Sim Simma)” and won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2001. Chico brought his own flavor with “Teaser.” Though not as widely known as some others, Chico’s work on this riddim was well received in the dancehall community. Degree’s “Dont Break The Rules” and Delly Ranks’ “Yu Got It All” added more heat to the mix. Delly Ranks is also known for producing and collaborating with other big names in reggae and dancehall.
