Windel Beneto Edwards, born on 25 October 1983 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a reggae and dancehall singer. His parents realized his gift at a young age but unfortunately he was too young to notice his parents were trying to help him when they introduced him to Mr. Wong, a record producer. One day they dropped him off at his studio and left him there and his career began. Under the guidance of Mr. Wong, he earned a spot at Sting in 2004 and he released his debut album My Name Is Gyptian on VP Records. In 2005, he made 2 hits “Is There A Place” on the Seasons Riddim and “Serious Times”. At the 2006 International Reggae and World Music Awards, he got nominated for Best New Entertainer. JonFX produced for him “I Can Feel Your Pain” on Cloud Nine riddim in 2007 and it appeared in 2008 on his 2nd album I Can Feel Your Pain. In 2010, his single “Hold Yuh” appeared on different charts including Billboard Hot 100, Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart, Billboard Rhythmic Top 40, Canadian Hot 100, and it took 1st place on Dancehall and Reggae fusion Charts of the Jamaica Weekly Music Charts.” Hold You” his third album, gained number 2 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums Chart. “Hold Yuh” was released in the UK on 7 November by the Ministry of Sound Recordings and it became an immediate sensation. In October 2013, Sex, Love & Reggae was released and entered the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart at number one. In 2016, Edwards released his album titled Gyptian Consciousness, and his fan base multiplied. His recent album was released in February 2020, titled The Difference. So far it is doing very well. He has also made a good number of collaborations and remixes of the hit “Hold Yuh.”
