John Taylor, born 16 April 1963 in West Kingston, Jamaica. He was raised in the Waterhouse district of Kingston. He is a Jamaican Dancehall and reggae musician popularly known as a duo Chaka Demus and Pliers. As was his habit, Taylor was regularly attended at Kingston dances and Prince Jammy often gave him a chance to DJ on his sound system. This helped him to launch his career as a deejay for the Roots Majestic sound system. He then made his recording debut with the King Jammy-produced single “Increase Your Knowledge.” His early records never saw chart success, however, their success increased later as time went on. Some musicians like Yellowman swiftly recognized him as having great potential and joined him for such songs as “Everybody Loves Chaka”  Taylor had established successfully his solo career prior to combining his musical gifts and talents with Pliers. During an interview in 1998, Demus recalled his initial reaction upon hearing Pliers’ voice. Demus thought Pliers had a sweet melody voice and anytime he listened to him, he knew I could mesh with him. Their duo relationship has seen stardom for both of them. They had their first major hit was “Murder She Wrote,” and was produced by Sly & Robbie, though Pliers had recorded it as a soloist before he had met up with Demus. “Tease Me” was their next single and it remained three months in the British Top Ten, reaching the number three slot. It sold more than 300,000 copies. The duo released their debut album in January 1994, Tease Me, and their second album, “She Don’t Let Nobody” was released in 1995. At that time, it reached number four on the British album charts.
