First Name Music’s Selection Riddim arrived in 2013 as a polished lovers-rock-flavoured reggae set that sat comfortably in the digital era while still sounding rooted in the classic juggling tradition. The instrumental rides at a laid-back 80 BPM, with a smooth, melodic pulse that leaves room for each singer to shape the groove without crowding it. Released through First Name Music with 21st Hapilos Digital, it was issued as a 12-track set in April 2013.

The lineup is strong from top to bottom: Alborosie, Capleton, Chaka Demus, Christopher Martin, Exco Levi, Lutan Fyah, Mr. Vegas, Renegade, Romain Virgo, Sizzla, Zamunda, and Troy Mclean on the version cut. That mix tells the story of the riddim itself. Christopher Martin’s “Never Cheat” and Romain Virgo’s “Beautiful” sit closest to the sweet spot, both carried by clean vocal phrasing and romantic themes that match the song bed. Alborosie brings a more seasoned, slightly rugged touch with “Woman I Need You, ” while Capleton’s “Your Smile” adds a veteran contrast from an artist known for balancing cultural fire with softer material.
