Mind Yu Dis Riddim – Music Works

Augustus Clarke’s Music Works pulled together a sharp 1988 cut of the Mind Yu Dis rhythm, and the line-up tells you plenty about where dancehall was headed at the time: Shabba Ranks, Gregory Isaacs, Nadine Sutherland, Pliers, Powerman and Chaka Demus all take a pass at it, with the Isaacs cut and Shabba’s “No Bother Dis Soundboy” sitting near the center of the set. The riddim itself has that late-80s Gussie Clarke polish, clean but heavy, with enough space for the deejays and singers to lock in without crowding each other. It runs ten tracks in all, including versions from Dean Fraser, J. C. Lodge and The Mighty Diamonds, and the archive listing places it firmly in Music Works’ 1988 output under Augustus Clarke.
