Lean and rugged, this 1984 Black Roots cut carries just two voices, but that small lineup gives the riddim room to breathe. Colourman’s “Skin Afe Peel” brings the sharper edge, all brisk dancehall phrasing and streetwise snap, while Little John’s “Bubbling Style” eases into the groove with the kind of rolling talk-singing that made early ’80s bashment so nimble. Black Roots keep the production bare enough to let the rhythm pocket do the talking, no excess, just a tight, propulsive foundation that feels made for sound system movement.
