SUPER STARS HIT PARADE RIDDIM VOLUME 5 – 1989
Super Stars Hit Parade Overview
Behind the rocksteady sound that echoed through reggae in 1989 was the Super Power label. Their release, the Super Stars Hit Parade Riddim, brought together a powerful lineup of artists who each left their mark on the reggae scene. Bobby Digital, known for his work both as a producer and an artist, delivered "Digital A Swing." This track showed his signature digital touch, a style he helped pioneer in Jamaican music. Brian And Tony Gold, the duo famous for their smooth harmonies, contributed "Bullseye." Their voices had already been heard on hits like "Can You" and collaborations with Shabba Ranks. Coco Tea Home T Shabba Ranks teamed up for "Who She Love," a song that brought together three big names. Shabba Ranks, in particular, was already gaining international attention at this time, later winning two Grammy Awards in the 1990s. Colin Roach’s "Oh Girl" and Courtney Melody’s "Poor People" added heartfelt lyrics and melodies, keeping reggae’s social messages strong. Gregory Isaacs, known as the "Cool Ruler," sang "Love Contract," while Hugo Barrington offered "So For Your Love." Ken Booth gave "Call Me," Pinchers sang "Someone's Calling," and Bounty Killer brought energy with "Smoke The Herb." Produced at the legendary Mixing Lab studio, this collection kept reggae’s spirit and message alive, making it a true classic of the era.
