    Oh Carolina Riddim brings together one of reggae’s earliest and most influential songs, with the Folkes Brothers’ original 1960 cut sitting alongside 1993 versions from Admiral Bailey, Bounty Killer, Brian and Tony Gold, Captain Barkey and others. Originally linked to Prince Buster’s production of the classic, the rhythm has been carried through a wide spread of labels and eras, from the early ska foundation to a later dancehall reworking. Count Ossie’s drumming gives the source cut its unmistakable pulse, while the newer selections add tougher digital-era vocals and sound. It plays like a broad showcase of the tune’s long life, with the Folkes Brothers’ Oh Carolina and Count Ossie’s Carolina serving as the defining anchors.
