BREAKING UP RIDDIM produced by B. Dixon (Bobby Digital) for Digital-B Records 1995
Breaking Up Overview
The dub cut for Breaking Up Riddim came together in a busy Kingston studio in 1995. The producer, B. Dixon, better known as Bobby Digital, was at the controls. He was known for his sharp ear and fresh ideas. Bobby Digital had already built a strong name in reggae with his label, Digital-B Records, which started in the late 1980s. He worked with many stars, like Shabba Ranks and Garnett Silk, and helped bring digital sounds into reggae. For Breaking Up Riddim, Bobby Digital wanted a sound that would work well on big sound systems and also feel smooth at home. He guided the musicians to keep the riddim strong but let the singers shine. The result was a classic reggae groove with a modern edge. Cocoa Tea brought his song Smile to the project. He was already famous for songs like Good Life and had a sweet, clear voice. Gregory Isaacs recorded Breaking Up. Isaacs was known as the "Cool Ruler" and had a big hit with Night Nurse in 1982. Nytez added Theres No Me Without You, bringing a heartfelt performance. Shelene sang Can You, showing off her vocal style. The Version track, Breaking Up Riddim, let listeners enjoy the pure instrumental. This dub cut is a true piece of 1995 reggae, shaped by top artists and a legendary producer.
