Sectour Riddim – Shines Production 1999
Sectour Overview
The Sectour Riddim selector’s mix first appeared in Jamaica in 1999. This dancehall project brought together some of the genre’s most energetic voices, creating a soundtrack that matched the rebellious mood of late-90s parties. Mr Vegas, for example, had scored a major hit in 1998 with "Heads High," which topped charts in Jamaica and made waves internationally. Other standout voices on the riddim include Zebra, who delivered "Gal A Say She Want," and Captain Barkey with "A Truth Dat." Captain Barkey was part of the well-known duo Wickerman & Barkey, who were active throughout the 1990s. Alley Cat’s "Dem Gal Crazy" and Mega Banton’s "Not A Like" added more fire to the mix. Mega Banton, famous for his 1994 hit "Sound Boy Killing," brought his signature style to the riddim. The bashment arranger wove these songs together, giving each artist space to shine while keeping the energy high. The producer behind Sectour Riddim is not widely credited, but the mix’s tight, party-ready sound was a big part of its appeal. Looking back, the Sectour Riddim helped keep dancehall vibrant in 1999. Its blend of strong personalities and catchy rhythms made it a favorite at parties and dancehalls, and it remains a classic example of the era’s sound.
