2023 the year of jamaica's valiant

Dancehall has a lot to cheer about in terms of garnering fresh talent that seem to have wrestled the popularity belt from the likes of Vybz Kartel and ol timers like Capelton and Sizzla. Valiant whose government name is Raheem Bowes is the top trending dancehall artist at the moment with numerous hits on dancehall charts.

Valiant rose to stardom in October 2022 after being recorded on one of his music video shoots saying “kotch e hat a lie”. The video went viral and had many dancehall fans curious about him. He has had numerous dancehall bangers which include North Carolina, Dunce Cheque, Siance, and Speed Off. With controversial lyrics, Valiant even attracted the attention of Information Minister Robert Morgan who questioned his lyrics’ implications on the Jamaican youth. Valiant did defend himself by arguing for freedom of expression saying;

“I was singing positive music first—I am still singing positive music but ‘vibesier’ music, yuh know dem way deh? The younger generation can get fi really love mi more but yet still mi still have di positive side weh the older folks can love as well.”
