Asap Riddim – Irie Ites Records

Irie Ites pulled together ASAP Riddim in 2022 as one of its modern roots-and-dancehall juggling sets, with Evidence Music in the release chain and the label’s own hand in the production. The French outfit has long sat at the crossroads of sound system culture and record-making, and its catalogue is built on heavyweight collaborations with names like Anthony B, Queen Omega, Capleton, Sizzla, Jah Mason, Chezidek and more. ASAP lands right in that lane: a contemporary riddim package with a roots backbone and a sharp digital edge.

The riddim plays with urgency rather than rush, riding a brisk one-drop pulse, crisp drums and a lean bassline that leaves space for voices to cut through. It feels made for juggling, but the mix has enough grit to give each vocal its own shape. Anthony B opens with “Raggamuffin, ” bringing his militant clarity. Jah Mason’s “Mother Earth” and Queen Omega’s “Thunder Storm” keep the conscious pressure on, while Chezidek’s “The Game” and Lyricson’s “Wicked Heart” push the social commentary further. Brother Culture’s “Build Up A House” adds a UK mic-man charge, and the trio cut “Dangerous” with Beenie Man, King Kong and Nuttea gives the project a more playful, heavyweight collision. Spectacular and Perfect Giddimani’s “A. S. A. P” is another strong link, especially with both artists’ roots-conscious delivery. Tomawok, Keefaz and Puppa Nadem close with “Calme avant la tempête, ” which underlines the riddim’s cross-language reach. It’s a varied set, but the common thread is conscious energy over a clean, modern foundation.
