Rasta Yaad Riddim – Donsome

Donsome’s Rasta Yaad Riddim arrived in December 2022 as a conscious roots set anchored by a warm one-drop pulse and a steady, dubby bounce. Adrian Dwayne Hanson, working under the Donsome banner, has long been associated with reggae production out of New York with ties back to Jamaica, and this riddim sits neatly in that lane: modern clean-cut recording, but with enough yard-style weight to keep the message front and center.

Fantan Mojah gives the riddim its name with “Rasta Yaad, ” and that cut sets the tone with his familiar positive fire and devotional language. Anthony B’s “Most High” is the sharpest early pull, all militant phrasing and confident delivery. Lutan Fyah’s “Still a Love Jah” works the spiritual side with his measured, earnest style, while Turbulence brings a more urgent edge on “Why Not Live. ” Mykal Rose adds veteran authority on “Brutal, ” and Junior Kelly’s “That’s Right” gives the set another strong roots-conscious lift.

Ginjah’s “Putting Up Resistance” and Kaibanon’s “Rocky Roads” deepen the lineup, keeping the messages focused on endurance, faith, and survival. The riddim itself carries that horn-and-percussion feel associated with modern roots sessions, and the versions were cut across Jamaica, New York, and home setups, which gives the project a broad but coherent finish. It is a tight, message-heavy juggling that relies on singers who know how to ride a roots groove without crowding it.
