X-RATED RIDDIM produced by COLIN FAT RECORDS 1993
X-Rated Overview
When X-Rated Riddim dropped in 1993, dancehall fans quickly took notice. The compilation’s mix of tough beats and smooth flow made it a favorite at bashment parties that year. Listeners were drawn to the energy and the way each artist brought something special to the set. Captain Barkey’s “Gal At Mi Door” became a standout for its catchy hook and playful delivery. Chevelle Franklin & Danny Liza teamed up on “Wait Until Tonight,” blending their voices for a soulful touch. Chevelle Franklin would later gain even wider fame with her hit “Dancehall Queen,” but here she showed her early promise. Frisco Kid, known for his energetic style, added “Hotter Flex,” while General B delivered both “Nicky” and “No Taxi Fare,” showing his versatility. Ghost contributed two tracks: “I Wish You Were There” and “Profile.” Ghost is well-known for his smooth vocals and has worked with top producers in the genre. Other artists on the riddim included Louie Culture with “Dont Get Weary,” Mega Plough with “Debbie’s Cat,” and Terrical with “Youth From The Street.” Each track added its own flavor to the compilation. The riddim was produced by COLIN FAT RECORDS, a label led by the late Colin “Colin Fat” Hines. The label played a big role in shaping 1990s dancehall, producing hits for artists like Beenie Man and Sanchez. X-Rated Riddim remains a strong example of their impact on the scene.
