Through The Fire Overview
The roots anthology known as Through The Fire Riddim was released in 2008. It came out of Jamaica, where roots reggae and one drop rhythms were seeing a resurgence. The riddim became a favorite in roots circles that year, as selectors and fans gave it forward after forward at sessions. Three main artists stood out on the Through The Fire Riddim. Delly Ranx, an established deejay and producer, voiced “Past The Worst.” Delly Ranx is well known for his earlier hit song “Red Bull & Guinness,” which made a mark on dancehall charts years before. On this riddim, his delivery on “Past The Worst” matched the meditative mood of the backing track. Nanko contributed the song “Ethan.” Nanko is recognized worldwide for his 2005 chart hit “Lucky You,” which helped him reach audiences beyond Jamaica. His soulful voice on “Ethan” added depth to the Through The Fire project. The group Tok delivered “Wanna Love You.” Tok (Touch Of Klass) are one of Jamaica’s most successful vocal groups. Their harmonies and crossover appeal have led to international tours and several major awards throughout their career. With “Wanna Love You,” they brought their signature sound to the roots rhythm. MAD SCIENTIST produced the Through The Fire Riddim. MAD SCIENTIST is known for his work with Jamaican label Kings Of Kings, founded by Colin ‘Iley Dread’ Levy. He has crafted many memorable reggae riddims, showing a consistent approach to one drop production.
