THE DANCE RIDDIM produced by BLACK SCORPIO 2001
The Dance Overview
In 2001, a fresh roots reggae drop made its mark on the scene. This was the Dance Riddim, a one drop riddim that brought deep bass and lively energy to dancehalls and radios. It arrived from Jamaica, carrying the spirit of roots reggae into the new millennium. Some well-known artists joined this project. Capleton, famous for his hit “Tour,” brought powerful energy with his track “Righteousness.” Gregory Isaacs, who is called the “Cool Ruler” and known for the classic song “Night Nurse,” added his smooth style on “Sentence.” Heather Cummings gave a soulful performance on “Why.” Josie Mel kept the party moving with “Dont Stop The Dance,” and Luciano, who has won awards like the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association’s Icon Award, shared his message in “Long Story.” Behind the scenes was the producer BLACK SCORPIO, also known as Maurice Johnson. BLACK SCORPIO’s label has been active since the 1970s and helped launch the careers of many reggae stars. He is known for shaping the sound of modern reggae and dancehall, working with artists like Dennis Brown and Beenie Man. This riddim brought together roots vibes and conscious lyrics. It was a big part of reggae in 2001, giving both old and new fans something to enjoy.
