Sunshine State Riddim – Madd Spider

Sunshine State Riddim arrived in early 2015 from Madd Spider Productions, the Orlando-based imprint run by Jermaine “Froggy” Lawrence and Ashanti “Taranchyla” Reid. By then, the team had already been building a catalogue around modern reggae and dancehall with a Florida-Caribbean connection, and this one carried that identity cleanly: recorded between Orlando and Kingston, cut at a slower pace than the usual bashment sprint, and shaped with a light electronic edge that gave the singers and deejays more room to breathe.

The riddim’s pulse sits in that rare middle ground where it feels relaxed but still made for juggling. That slower swing lets the hooks land hard, and it helps the mix feel open rather than crowded. Ce’Cile’s “It’s Yours” brings sly confidence, Delly Ranx turns “Str888 Link” into a rough-edged flirtation, and Gappy Ranks turns “Deep Pocket” into one of the set’s sharper class-conscious cuts. Wayne Wonder and Supriz bring a smoother, radio-ready touch on “Stance Again, ” while Notch and Edley Shine add extra weight through the Born Jamericans connection, folding old-school crossover instincts into a contemporary reggae frame.

What makes the project work is the balance between veteran names and voices tied to Florida’s Jamaican and wider Caribbean diaspora. Pressure Busspipe, T. O. K. , Kiprich and Memzay, Taranchyla, Ayanna Osouna, Baby Boom and the rest keep the mood moving without breaking the riddim’s easy glide. It is a compilation that sounds built for sound systems, but with enough polish to travel well beyond them.
