STRONGMAN RIDDIM produced by ORACABESSA 1999
Strongman Overview
In 1999, some of the biggest names in dancehall music came together on the Strongman riddim. Elephant Man, known for his high-energy style and his later hit “Pon Di River, Pon Di Bank,” brought fire to the track “Run Lef Dem Draws.” Hawkeye, who was building his name with clever lyrics, delivered “Be Good.” Mad Cobra, famous for his 1992 chart-topping single “Flex,” gave the riddim its title song, “Strongman.” Roundhead teamed up with General B for “True Lover,” and the popular group Scare Dem Crew, who were known for their wild stage shows, dropped “Hot Gal Time.” The bashment rhythm behind these songs was put together by ORACABESSA, a respected producer and label in the reggae and dancehall world. ORACABESSA Records started in the late 1990s and quickly became known for working with top Jamaican artists and creating hits that worked well in both local and international clubs. When the Strongman riddim came out, DJs and sound systems picked it up right away. In street dances across Jamaica, the heavy bass and catchy beat made people move. The songs on this riddim were played back-to-back, and the energy kept the crowd going all night. Even today, fans remember how this bashment project brought artists and fans together on the dancefloor.
