Street Jam Riddim – Black Kolaz

Street-level bounce. Black Kolaz set this 2008 cut with a lean, skanking groove that feels built for sound system play, all clipped drums, warm bass and just enough space for the vocals to cut through. Anthony B opens with “Calm Down” in a stern, check-yourself mood, Teflon rides the rhythm with “Stand Firm, ” and Bushman brings the kind of grounded plea that always suits his voice, especially on “Please Call Me. ” It’s a short four-track set, but that’s part of the charm: one tune, three voices, and a version tucked in for the selectors. In a year when reggae riddims were still leaning hard on rootsy digital craftsmanship, Street Jam sits right in that pocket.
