Roadster Riddim – Weedy G Records

Roadster Riddim landed in 2012 from Weedy G Records, the Swiss-based Weedy G Soundforce camp built out of Männedorf near Lake Zurich. The label had already made a name for itself with sound-system-minded reggae and dancehall productions, and this set sits right in that early run, before they widened further into heavier reggae juggling work.

The riddim has a breezy, summer-lit bounce rather than a hard slap. It sits in a dancehall lane, but the arrangement leaves room for melody and singjay phrasing, with a light, rolling groove that gives the cuts space to move. That balance is part of what makes the project work: it can carry Beenie Man’s playful “U A Mi Queen” just as easily as Burro Banton’s sharper “Cyaan Tek Di System, ” and it has enough lift for the breezier, vacation-minded energy of Perfect Giddimani’s “Summertime Ina Europe” and Teacha Dee with Skarra Mucci on “Welcome to the Summer. ”

The guest list gives the riddim its shape. Beenie Man brings instant name value and veteran ease. Burro Banton gives it grit. Perfect Giddimani adds the conscious-rooted contrast he’s known for, while Skarra Mucci and Teacha Dee push the cross-continental, festival-ready feel that Weedy G Soundforce often favored. Cookie the Herbalist, Blackout Ja, Mandinka, Wiseman, Shocking Murray and Flexable, and Grindsman fill out the juggling with a mix of party talk, badmind remarks, rastaman reasoning, and summer one-offs. It’s a record that feels less like one blockbuster single and more like a tidy snapshot of European dancehall in that period, with enough character across the voicings to keep the rhythm moving.
