Jupiter Riddim – U.I.M Records

U. I. M Records’ 2012 Jupiter Riddim lands in that early-2010s dancehall pocket when a single rhythm could still pull together a heavyweight juggling and a few newer voices without losing its edge. The label behind it is the Kingston-based UIM outfit led by Andrew “Anju Blaxx” Myrie, a producer with a deep catalogue across modern reggae and dancehall. Jupiter sits comfortably in that run: a club-ready, digital cut with enough bite for the street side of the market and enough bounce for the party side.

The rhythm has a hard, clipped pulse and a bright, synthetic sheen, moving with the kind of forward drive that leaves room for fast-talking deejays and glossy hook lines. Vybz Kartel’s Convertible appears in both clean and raw versions, and that alone tells you where the project was aimed. Popcaan’s Clean Stamp and Tommy Lee’s Bravery keep the energy sharp, while Demarco’s Real Qwenga and Elephant Man’s Position bring veteran confidence to the juggling. Keida’s Hot Ash adds a woman’s perspective with a lighter, more melodic touch, and D’Angel’s Fresh Bed and Blak Diamon’s Gimmi The Paper broaden the set without breaking its momentum.

The standout pull here is the mix of names and tones rather than any one giant anthem. Kartel, Popcaan, Tommy Lee and Elephant Man give Jupiter the kind of cachet that carried riddims through the era, while Keida and D’Angel help push it beyond pure male dancehall chatter. It is a brisk, well-curated soundboard of 2012 dancehall energy, and the track selection makes that plain.
