Plug Riddim – Dicer Crew 1998
Plug Overview
In the late 1990s, dancehall was bursting with new sounds, and one riddim stood out from the crowd. The Plug Riddim, crafted by Dicer Crew — L. Pusey and D. McLeod — was born in a small but lively Kingston studio. These two producers had already made a name for themselves in the dancehall scene, known for their sharp ear and creative energy. Working under the Dicer Crew name, they were skilled at blending heavy bass with catchy melodies, and their productions often became favorites at street dances. The magic of the Plug Riddim started at the mixing board, where the “mixing board king” worked his craft. Every snare, bassline, and synth was carefully layered to create a sound that was both raw and polished. When the final version was ready, the riddim was handed off to a select group of artists who knew how to ride its pulse. Archie Wonder brought fire with “Hot Gal,” a track that quickly became a staple at parties. Sandeeno, known for his work on the UK reggae scene and tracks like “Tear Down Babylon,” dropped “Fresh,” adding his signature conscious style. Supa Sass delivered “Resolution,” giving the riddim another burst of energy. Dicer rounded out the release with “Plug Riddim Version,” letting the instrumental shine. As soon as the Plug Riddim hit the streets in 1998, it took over bashment sessions across Jamaica and beyond. For dancehall fans, that year is impossible to remember without this release.
