Morgan Heritage, Reggae Royalty

The discussion has already been had as to who is the King of Reggae. Bob Marley was the obvious pick but now it’s time to discuss who the best ensemble are when it comes to reggae. There are quite a few acts to pick from but the one group that stands out is Morgan Heritage. Boasting twelve studio albums, Morgan Heritage has stood the test of time and continually produced a fresh sound that has entertained fans all over the world.

The other groups who were part of the discussion were obviously Bob Marley and The Wailers, UB40, Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Toots and The Maytals just to mention a few. One could say my pick was heavily biased by the fact that Morgan Heritage is still very relevant today having just released their twelfth album ‘Loyalty’. Having just listened to the album I was left with no choice but to make the bold claim of their superiority.

The album features top reggae artists, some at their peak like ‘Popcaan’ and rising African acts like Ghanaian Stonebwoy, Pantorankin and Diamond Platnumz. The 16 track album is full of diversity and showcases a full range of reggae sounds from the Morgan trio.

The group comprises of Peetah Morgan, Gramps Morgan and Mr Mojo. Without going into a full album review ‘Loyalty’ should be on your to listen to list for 2019. Let the music do the talking so to speak.

On the subject of picking an album title a quote from the group sums up everything and why they are my number one pick;

“We chose the title because of how loyal we’ve been to the brand Morgan Heritage as a family, a band and group for so many years. Hence the reason we say ‘Heritage 4 Life’, as well as our loyalty to Reggae music while not being afraid to travel the journey of change through musical evolution.”

I will say no more and leave you to revere on ‘reggae royalty’. Is there anyone else who trumps them?
