Spit Fiyah Records frames Living Dead Riddim like a grim little dancehall set piece, and the title does the heavy lifting before a note even drops. Cut in 2016, the juggling runs eight voices deep and keeps the mood dark and streetwise, with names like Navino, Ele Trunk, Blaq Purl, Kasanova, Craiggis and Jigzy King moving through cuts such as “Shallow Grave, ” “Defense (Nah Go Suh), ” “Murdera” and “Easy Fi Dead. ” There’s no filler in the sequencing either, just a tight run of lean, murder-minded songs over a stark instrumental that leaves room for the vocals to bite. Navino’s “Shallow Grave” sets the tone early, but Jigzy King’s “Easy Fi Dead” lands the hardest, bringing the whole riddim’s haunted energy into focus.
