Fantastic Riddim – Spit Fiyah Records

By 2016, Spit Fiyah Records had already started carving out a little run of tough dancehall instrumentals, and Fantastic Riddim fits neatly into that pocket with ten cuts and eight different voices riding the same beat. Red Rat’s “New Pum Pum” gives it an immediate old-school bite, while Navino’s “Dem” and XX3eme’s “Moan” lean into the more current, cheeky side of the dance. Iya Champs’ “Solomon” and I Sane’s “Inna Yo Home” add a rougher street-level tone, and the instrumental at the end lets the riddim breathe on its own. Released in late 2016, it sits right in that era when compact digital dancehall sets were keeping the sound system energy moving without a lot of extra fuss.
