Jones Ave Records keeps this one more focused than some of the bigger, star-packed dancehall juggling projects they’d later be tied to, and that tighter frame suits the sharp, girls-up energy in “Dancehall A Me Gal. ” Released on November 18, 2016, the set runs just seven tracks and hangs its weight on four names: Govana, Myles, Shawn Storm and Vybz Kartel. Kartel’s “Yuh Body Perfect” gets both clean and raw cuts, which tells you the label was thinking in terms of radio reach and street replay at the same time. The sequencing matters too: the three solo cuts lead into the double version of the Kartel tune, so the riddim closes with its biggest pull rather than opening on it.
