Live Blanket Riddim (Flashback Series) produced by Penthouse Records 2025
Live Blanket Overview
The new reggae track base for the Live Blanket Riddim started in the studio with musicians laying down roots-style drums and bass. The selector wanted a classic reggae feel, so the focus was on live instruments and a deep, steady groove. This direction helped the riddim sound warm and true to the roots tradition. Penthouse Records produced this project, bringing their long history in reggae to the table. The label, founded by Donovan Germain in the late 1980s, is known for launching the careers of many big reggae artists. Penthouse has produced hits for Buju Banton and Wayne Wonder, and their riddims often top reggae charts. The Live Blanket Riddim features a strong lineup. Nana Mclean brings her smooth voice to “Dangerous.” She is known for her soulful reggae style and has worked with many respected producers in Jamaica and Canada. Buju Banton delivers two tracks: “Defend Cash” and “Gun Bag.” Buju is one of reggae’s biggest stars, famous for his Grammy-winning album “Before the Dawn” and hits like “Destiny.” His songs on this riddim show his powerful delivery and deep lyrics. Supervisor’s “Easy Fi Done” adds a relaxed vibe, fitting the riddim’s easy flow. Cutty Ranks appears with “Fe Fi Fo Fum.” He is known for his tough deejay style and his hit “The Stopper,” which made him a dancehall legend. Major Cat’s “Good Coob” rounds out the set, bringing his unique voice and energy.
