Heatstroke Riddim comes out of that late-2000s dancehall moment when the bigger voices could still make a one-drop-ish studio pattern feel dangerous, and this set leans hard on swaggering party talk and waistline business from Bramma, Chino, Delly Ranx, Demarco, Elephant Man and Konshens. The production has that sun-baked, mid-tempo pulse that keeps the bassline moving without rushing the singers, so a cut like Elephant Man’s “Di Way Yuh Wine” sits right in the pocket while Demarco and Chino push the dancefloor angle from different sides. It’s a stacked vocal round, with Munga, Laden and Voicemal also adding their own spin, and the package finishes with the version cut, “Heatstroke Riddim, ” alongside 11 vocal tracks from 2008.
