Hard Drop Riddim – Foundation Sound

Foundation Sound’s Hard Drop Riddim sits a little apart from the heavier dubwise work the UK crew would later become known for, but you can already hear their hand in the weight of it. Issued in 2008 as FS10001, it’s a compact four-track set with Ras Zacharri and Jah Rueben Mystic leading “Lion Inna Jungle, ” Mikey Murka on “Robberman, ” and Dark Angel’s “Medication” rounding out the vocal side before the instrumental title cut closes the sequence. The production has that late-2000s roots feel: steady drum programming, a clipped one-drop pulse, and bass that keeps punching forward without getting busy. It leaves space for the singers, especially on the chant-heavy “Lion Inna Jungle, ” and the whole thing hangs together on a firm, unhurried groove that stays locked at mid-tempo.
