By the time Silent Sky rolls around as the seventh entry in Loud Disturbance’s Loud Riddim Series, the production team had settled into a sturdy roots-conscious groove, and this 2008 set keeps the focus on conscious lyrics over a lean, mid-tempo backdrop. Blaqk Sheep Crew’s name is tied to the production here, and the line-up leans hard on singers who can carry that message without crowding the rhythm: Gyptian’s “I Feel So Sad, ” Norris Man’s “Giver Of Life, ” and Sizzla’s “Babylon System” give the set its strongest charge. Natural Black, Jimmy Riley, and Abijah each add a different shade to the same riddim, which helps the project feel less like a random stack of singles and more like a carefully paced showcase.
