Some Like It High Riddim – 117 Record

Unlike some of 117 Record’s busier dancehall outings, Some Like It High keeps its focus on a smaller, dub-conscious reggae set, with Anthony Cruz and Bionic Clarke anchoring the six-track package in 2015. The riddim has a stripped, echo-heavy feel: warm bass, clipped drum programming, and little pockets of space that let the vocal lines and dub treatments breathe. Anthony Cruz turns up twice with “Hi Grade” and the Razoof Kampala remix, while Ras Milo’s “Some Like It Dubby” and Dubvisionist’s “Hi Grade Dub” push the instrumental side further into sound system territory. M7 Allstars close it out with the title cut, and that version ties the whole thing together with a steady mid-tempo roll, a rubbery bassline, and a vocal approach that stays loose rather than polished.
