Shank I Sheck Riddim (2008) – Necessary Mayhem

There’s not much mystery around this one, and that’s part of its appeal: a three-track 2008 Necessary Mayhem cut that keeps the focus tight on the tune rather than the package. Yt, Blackout Ja, Mr Williamz and Michie One all circle the same backdrop, with “Bills” and “Write Some Lyrics” carrying the melodic lift while Blackout Ja’s “Reggae Rebel” leans harder into the chesty chant style. Necessary Mayhem has long had a hand in clean, systems-minded reggae production, and here the approach feels stripped back and practical, with the familiar Shank I Sheck pull in the rhythm giving the songs their movement. It sits in that mid-tempo pocket where the bassline does most of the talking, steady and weighty underneath the vocals.
