GALLOWAS RIDDIM produced by GREENSLEEVES RECORDS 1993
Gallowas Overview
In 1993, the Gallowas Riddim came together in the studio with a clear creative vision. The track builder wanted to create a dancehall sound that was both hypnotic and full of energy. The riddim’s melodies and rhythms were carefully layered, giving it a unique style that stood out from other releases of the time. The producer behind this project was GREENSLEEVES RECORDS, a well-known label in reggae and dancehall music. Founded in the UK in 1975, GREENSLEEVES RECORDS helped introduce many Jamaican artists to the world. The label is famous for releasing important dancehall albums and singles, and its catalog includes many classic riddims that have influenced the scene for decades. Mad Cobra was one of the standout artists on this riddim, delivering the song Mad Cobra — Gallowas. Mad Cobra is known internationally for his hit “Flex,” which reached number 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1992. Red Dragon brought his own flavor with Red Dragon — Sweetheart. Red Dragon was a key figure in the 1980s and 1990s dancehall era. Red Rose & Malvo Crew joined forces for Red Rose & Malvo Crew — Gallowas Version, adding another layer to the project. Selectors loved this mix, and it became a true yard classic at 1993’s events, showing the riddim’s lasting impact on dancehall culture.
