Dancehall Rock Riddim – Kings Of Kings

Released in 2004 on Kings of Kings, Dancehall Rock came out of the Burrell family production camp led by Colin Levy with Cordel and Everton Burrell. Kings of Kings had already established itself as a serious dancehall imprint, and this juggling sits right in that early-2000s run where the label was pairing sharp drum programming with big hooks and hard, DJ-friendly momentum.

The rhythm itself is fast, bright, and a little aggressive, with a rock-tinged edge that gives the bassline and guitars extra bite. It leaves plenty of room for voices to cut through, which is exactly why it works so well for a lineup like this. Assassin comes in with Do It Fi Yuh Bad, setting the militant tone early. Beenie Man and Ce’Cile’s Doctors adds a call-and-response spark that plays to both artists’ strengths, while Elephant Man’s Over Di Wall pushes the energy higher. Frisco Kid’s Everyday, Kiprich’s Nuh Fraid Ah Nuh Man, and Macka Diamond’s Know Yuh Friend each bring different shades of party-time confidence and streetwise banter.

Hawkeye, already a proven dancehall name by the time this rhythm dropped, fits neatly into the set with his Gal Dem Want Di Peg cut. Hollow Point’s two appearances help deepen the juggling, and Mad Anju’s Tanesha gives the compilation another sharp, character-driven moment. The whole thing captures that period when Kings of Kings was moving between heavy radio tunes and soundsystem-ready riddims without losing the rough edge that made the scene pay attention.
