Muted but rolling, the Step Out Riddim from Madmen Production lines up a compact set of dancehall cuts with Tony Matterhorn, Maximus Dan, KMC, Esco and Fireball all taking turns over the same pattern, which keeps the focus on the groove rather than any one star turn. Matterhorn’s “Nobody’s Goin’ Home” and Maximus Dan’s “Blast Off” are the names that jump out first, while KMC’s “Doh Tape Meh” and Esco’s “To The Road” keep the energy in that road-ready, session-friendly pocket. The release also closes with the instrumental version, a nice touch that lets the riddim breathe on its own and shows off the production without any vocals in the way. Madmen Productions issued Step Out Riddim as a six-track set in 2008.
