BLENDER RIDDIM produced by MARKUS RECORDS 2012
Blender Overview
When the Blender Riddim dropped in 2012, it quickly became a favourite at sound system parties across Jamaica. The heavy yard beat, built for big speakers and open-air dances, was shaped by MARKUS RECORDS. Markus Myrie, the producer behind the label, is known for working with some of dancehall’s biggest names and is the son of reggae legend Buju Banton. MARKUS RECORDS has built a reputation for bold, modern riddims that keep the roots of dancehall alive. A good riddim needs a skilled sound engineer. On Blender Riddim, the engineer’s job was to make every drum hit and bassline punch through the speakers. This attention to detail helped the tracks stand out in crowded bashment sessions, where only the strongest beats get a forward. Three artists brought their own style to Blender Riddim. D'Angel’s “A My Life” is a confident anthem, showing off her signature mix of strength and melody. D'Angel is well known for her 2006 hit “Downtown Girl,” and her career has included collaborations with Beenie Man. Elephant Man’s “Not Having It” is pure energy, with his usual flair and dancehall bravado. Elephant Man, known as the “Energy God,” has international hits like “Pon De River, Pon De Bank” and has worked with artists such as Wyclef Jean. The version track, “Blender Riddim - Markus Records,” lets the riddim shine on its own, a tradition in dancehall releases. The Blender Riddim yard session tape became one of the bashment highlights of 2012, keeping the sound system culture strong and the dancefloor moving.
