Markus Records kept Syndicate Riddim in the tough, street-facing lane that defined a lot of mid-2010s dancehall. Released in February 2015, it came through as a juggling built for sound system rotation, with a hard-driving one-drop pulse, clipped drums, and a steely, minor-key pressure that gives the whole set a suspicious, militant edge. The title fits the mood: this is a riddim that feels tense, fast-moving, and ready for confrontation rather than celebration.

The producer behind it was Markus Myrie, the Buju Banton son who was carving out his own lane through Markus Records. By this point he had already started building a reputation for sharp, modern productions and for working closely with younger voices while still pulling in established names. Syndicate Riddim sits neatly in that catalogue: a dancehall project that balances heavyweight experience with fresh energy.

Agent Sasco brings the kind of razor-clean verbal control that always works on a stark riddim, and Nuh Mix lands with the cold, no-nonsense tone his fans expect. Elephant Man adds the physical, crowd-moving side of dancehall with Hands Straight, while I-Octane’s Risk Dem A Run gives the juggling one of its more forceful social-commentary moments. Jahazeil Myrie’s We Lock Di Street adds a family link to the label’s orbit, and Foota Hype’s 99 Problems keeps the streetwise patter moving. Bryka and D’East also help flesh out the set, giving the riddim more than one angle without softening its bite.

What makes Syndicate Riddim work is the way it keeps the pressure on across different voices. It is not glossy dancehall; it is lean, testy, and built for selectors who want a rawer kind of energy.
